The First Annual Las Colinas Grand Prix
was held on September 11, 1982.
The newly opened facility pulled out
all the stops
to show off the new face
of hunter/jumper competition in Texas.
In the following years of the 1980s
Texas would see an unpresidented growth
funded by "good times in the oil patch".
Famous East Coast and West Coast competitors
appeared at hunter/jumper shows in Irving and later
in Katy at Great Southwest Equestrian Center.
It didn't last. The price of oil dropped and
the horse show busines faltered.
Facilities closed but Las Colinas
persevered - until now.
Las Colinas will be sorely missed.
This was one of its great days
as recorded by THE HORSE SHEET, the horse show
reporter of the time.
Goodbye, Las Colinas, it was fun while it lasted!
